. a violent sex offender has been released from prison and is now on the streets of san francisco. kron 4's alecia reid visited his south of market neighborhood and home, where police went to warn neighbors. >>reporter: police are warning neighbors about this man53 year old david simons --- released from prison this month after serving 24 years for sexually assaulting children. he's considered a sexually violent predator. >> >> a violent predator is the worst of the worst, the most serious type of sexual offender, so it is our responsibility to alert the community. >>reporter: he now lives at hotel potter, south of market. inspectors visited his new home and handed out leaflets to people living in the building, alerting them of his presence. some did not welcome the news. >> they shouldn't let people out like that. they should keep him locked up. they got kids playing in parks and stuff like that. we don't need that around here. >>reporter: while karsene mcfadden feels strongly about his new neighbor, others believe simons has paid his debt and deserves a second chance. >> my grandparents w

. according to the san francisco chronicle the company suspects some workers lied about completing the inspections. eight employees have been fired or suspended. pg&e has hired 48 additional inspectors and they hope to have all the equipment checked by the end of the year. most of it is in southern alameda county and the south bay. >>> vallejo police are warning of a scam of a popular holiday gift. fake ipad sold on the street. tara moriarty joins us live. >> reporter: police say they found a stash of fake ipad boxes inside of a car. and they don't know exactly how much the person was intending to sell them for but they believe it was cheaper than what ipads normally go for which is between $300 and $800. inside of those boxes there was a replica ipad that was made out of a picture frame. it was wrapped with duct tape to mimic the back of similar ipad models. and to throw them off more it was wrapped in bubble wrap to hide its true feature. it's unknown where they were going to be sold. we are not sure if this was part of a larger ring. so just remember to open up every product and

:05. sentencing today for a san francisco school cafeteria worker convicted of several sexual assaults. he was convicted of attacking three women in the mission district last year. one of them was beaten unconscious. he could get life in prison. the fifth suspect charged in an attack that left one man dead and a woman badly beaten is set to face a judge today. they were found bound and bagged in the middle of the street. the victims and the suspects knew each other. the final suspect is facing charges of accessory to murder and conspiracy to destroy evidence. >>> new this morning there is more fallout from the royal phone hoax. about a dozen workers at the australian radio station behind the prank call had been moved to safe houses. ten radio executives now have around the clock bodyguards because of death threats. meanwhile british investigators are disclosing more information about three suicide notes left by the nurse. two were found in the room while the other was among her personal possessions. one note dealt with the phone call. another focused on her funeral. the third criticized ho

inside a san francisco high rise. inspired the last federal back in july 1993. a former client of a law firm inside 101 -california street. went on a killing spree. nine people including the gunman died. six were wounded. the killer was armed with a handgun and two tech nine assault pistols. the federal ban that came out of that tragedy. expired in 2004. today, a survivor of that shooting spoke to kron4's maureen kelly about the massacre in newtown, and the renewed push for stricter gun control laws in this country. >> i was sitting in my office on the 36 floor on one, california. my secretary said that there is somebody on the party fourth floor with a gun that he is shooting people. that he is on the -- party fourth floor . >> my secretary said that he was on the 34th floor. sheldon siegal worked at the law firm targeted by the gunman .and lost many friends and collegues that day. >> what is upsetting is that it is still happening after 20 years later. it is almost like it is accepted as the regular course of events and that is a huge failure >>reporter: he says the massacre at sandy
